HISTORY:
Rubellite tourmalines in the 17th century Russian Crown Jewels were originally thought to be rubies. In the early 1900s, rubellite mined in the U.S. was a favorite of the Dowager Empress of China.

COMMON TREATMENTS:
Sometimes heat-treated to improve color.
