Garnet isn't a single mineral, but describes a group of several different closely related minerals. It comes in a wide variety of colors, ranging from red to orange-brown to various shades of green to deep pink, but reddish shades are most common.

First uses date to 3100 BC in Egypt.

Use in jewelry:

Most often cut in rounds, ovals and cushions. Used in a wide array of styles.

6.5 to 8.5 (1 softest to 10 hardest)

Common treatments:

Garnets should not be treated.

Care:

Clean with warm water and mild soap.
